Gloucester Real Estate

The picturesque town of Gloucester is located on Cape Ann, an area in Massachusetts’ North Shore real estate market. The midsized community is nearly 400 years old, making it older than the nearby city of Boston.

Gloucester is split in half by the Annisquam River as it flows into the Atlantic Ocean, providing some residents beautiful water views. Gloucester has been traditionally a close-knit fishing community, but over the years experimented with shipbuilding too. The first schooner was reportedly built in the town in 1713.

While the Gloucester of today still hosts a thriving fishing and boating community, it has also become one of New England’s most active artist communities.  Downtown Gloucester also offers many shops, restaurants and attractions. The community routinely celebrates its heritage with events throughout the year including the Saint Peter’s Fiesta, schooner races, fireworks and outdoor concerts.

Some points of interest in the community include the Cape Ann Museum, Dogtown Common, Ravenswood Park, Rocky Neck Art Colony, the Sargent House Museum and the White-Ellery House.
